Jesus in Blue Jeans
(Was that a Neil Diamond song? Anyway...)
Our Lady Immaculate and St Philip Neri Catholic church in Uckfield (the UK) has unveiled a new sculpture of Jesus in jeans and shirt, with a shorter haircut and nicely-trimmed beard.
Says the parish priest: "We wanted a figure of Christ not in suffering but dynamic and welcoming."
Says the sculptor: "His clothing is being blown vigorously to add the sense of him being alive and his strength in defying earthly cares."
What do you guys think?

Money talks, but it can''t sing or dance...
...and it don't walk....
Jesus in blue jeans, hmmmm...it definitely detracts from the cental theme of the Catholic Doctrine, ie. Christ's suffering.
Maybe they still have Jesus on the cross inside. So, when new prospects walk in the door they say, "Hey....I thought this was going to be a happy place."

Well, first I thought,
"you can't be serious," Because all I can really think of when I look at it is the figure of "Buddy Jesus" from the movie Dogma.
(And I just tried to put the picture in and I can't figure out how to do it, so he's a link to an image:
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~hick0088/images/blog/buddy-jesus.jpg
But then I also thought of how the Anglo-Sexon, in "Dream of the Rood," create a much more dynamic, Ango-Saxon warrior type Jesus, he stays on the cross even though at any moment he he could bust out a can of whoop-ass on the spectators.
SO there's that too, I guess.
But I'm more inclined towards my first response.

Yo yo yo!
Jee-bizz is in God's hizzouse, y'all!
That was the first thought I had when I saw the picture.
BTW, putting in a pic is easy: you click on the pc-looking icon above three to the left of the icon that looks like a piece of film, then you paste in the url of the pic you want to include.
